Whether you're keeping your existing cabinets or purchasing new ones, there are just 7 steps to your best stone and color:

  1. What is your budget?

  2. What are your colors?

  3. Quartz or granite?

  4. What edge profile do you want?

  5. Care to choose your actual slab?

  6. Want to supervise your countertop layout?

  7. How long does it take?

Most people tell us the hardest part of the project is deciding how to start.

  1. What would your dream kitchen look like?

  2. What would you like to change?

  3. What is your budget?

  4. How can you balance form and function?

  5. Would you like to see what your finished kitchen might look like?

  6. What's left to do?

Stone Countertop Answers:

  1. What is your budget? We purchase inexpensive granite slabs from $10 per square foot to quartz from $20 to exotic granite from $80... and everything in between. For example, for a mid-price granite countertop – including template, manufacturing and installation – you can expect a finished price starting at about $65. To help you choose, we can quote you a "budget" countertop and a mid-price granite that offers 100 colors, so you can see the difference.

  2. What are your colors? Countertop, cabinet, and floor colors have to work together for the best overall look and feel. If you can bring a piece of your flooring and a cabinet drawer or door to our showroom, it's easier to choose a countertop color. You may also find our in-house wood and tile samples helpful. And when we can, we'll lend you stone samples you can try out at home. Visit Colors.

  3. Quartz or granite? Our quartz is an extremely strong and easy-to-care-for manmade stone with a very small and uniform scale pattern. Granite is actually a wide range of minerals and ranges from small, uniform patterns to large-scale movement and color variation.

  4. What edge profile do you want? Your countertop's edge profile can be as important as the color, and styles range from no-charge to low-price to premium. To learn more, visit edge profiles.

  5. Care to choose your actual slab? You can select from samples and slabs at our factory or choose a slab from our distributors' warehouses in Londonderry, New Hampshire, or Lowell and Westwood, Massachusetts. They display from 60-300 colors in full slabs; if you choose one, we'll tag it for you so you know exactly what you're getting. We recommend this if the stone color you like comes in several shades; also, some granite can vary widely in pattern and color from slab to slab.

  6. Want to supervise your countertop layout? Before we cut your slab, you might want to select which parts will go in particular kitchen areas. You are welcome to come to our factory!

  7. How long does it take? Once you've made all your choices – stone, edge profile, sink/faucet – there are just three steps. Our technician can make a template of your countertop in just 1-3 hours. (If we're using your existing countertop, we can usually make the template without removing it.) Manufacturing takes about two weeks. Installation will generally be about two weeks after completion of the template.

  3. What is your budget? We take the mystery out of the process and explain why products and labor cost what they do. Because so many options are available, budgets can be elusive; that's why we offer a Quick Budget program. Bring your kitchen measurements to QSI and we can estimate the cost of cabinets, countertops, and installation in just a few minutes. We have different cabinet lines and laminate products to suit your budget. And we can recommend contractors that you hire and pay directly with no markup, saving you money.

  4. How do you balance form and function? The balance between form and function is what will create a unique kitchen just for you. In terms of function, are you looking for features such as high-capacity rollout trays, spice racks, pullouts, trash/recycling drawers, and super susan corner cabinets? And in the area of form, is there a particular look or era that appeals to you? What shape of door, molding, glass fronts and wood do you prefer?

  5. Would you like to see what your finished kitchen might look like? We can measure your kitchen at no charge. We'll create line drawings and 3D perspectives in a timely manner. Then you can make changes, which is just fine with us and is free of charge. You can also refine your countertop, cabinet, and installation plans and estimates.

  6. What's left to do? We'll develop the scope of work for your project and recommend contractors (as needed) for electical, remodeling, cabinet installation, etc. They'll visit your home and prepare work quotations; you may hire them directly with no markup. Meanwhile, we'll order your countertops and cabinets, and schedule your project. Congratulations! Your project is officially underway.
